Join us for a volunteering day going door-to-door to connect with our community in the Garment District!

We’ll start with a volunteer training at Wing & Weft Gloves (265 W 37th St, Suite #11E) and then head out into the neighborhood to share information about the recent rezoning and how to access the over $120 million in resources awarded by the City. Any volunteers who are able to speak Spanish, Korean, Cantonese, or Mandarin, and are willing to act as translators, please note below.

Enduring Culture Spotlight: Garment District

Join the Municipal Art Society of New York (MAS), the Historic Districts Council (HDC), and the New York Fashion Workforce Development Coalition (NYFWDC) on Thursday, December 11th at Wing & Weft Gloves from 5:00pm-7:00pm for an Enduring Culture Spotlight Event. Come explore the last glove manufacturer in the Garment District and hear about the collaboration and ingenuity that can only happen here in the district. This event celebrates the manufacturing heart of the New York City fashion industry while acknowledging the challenges its businesses are facing as the city changes and prices rise.

Speakers include Tessa Maffucci, Assistant Chair of the Fashion Department at Pratt Institute, Katie Sue Nicklos, CEO and owner of Wing & Weft Gloves, and Laura Weber, Owner & Creative Director of LW Pearl. Refreshments will be provided.

This event is part of MAS’ Enduring Culture Initiative, a multi-year effort that aims to expand New York City’s approach to preservation; to protect and celebrate more of the places, cultural activities, and histories that make our neighborhoods and communities unique.

City Council Hearing on Garment District Rezoning

City Council will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, July 1st at 10:00am at City Hall to review the Midtown South Mixed-Use (MSMX) Plan — join us to provide testimony and help our Council Members understand the unintended consequences of this plan for the Garment District and our broader creative community in NYC.

We’ve learned that the City Planning Commission will hold its official hearing and vote on the Midtown South Mixed-Use (MSMX) Plan on Wednesday, May 7th at 10:00 AM. This hearing was not widely announced, but it is confirmed on the official agenda of the Department of City Planning: REGISTER HERE
